Learning Log 5

Learning Log #5
Answer the following questions honestly using your (working) blog in ED 126.1 (EdTech laboratory). Submit your answers on or before December 16 (Friday), 2016. This is part of your final grade in ED 126 (EdTech lecture).
  1. Which topic do you find most significant? Why?
  2. Which topic do you find most difficult to understand? Why?
  3. How do you find the use of our website (gg.gg)? Is it useful or not? Suggest ways to improve it.
  4. The new paradigm of education is done by creating engaging and inspiring learning experiences. Was the semester inspiring and engaging to you as a student of ED 126? Why?
  5. Suggest ways on how to improve the teaching and learning process in educational technology subject (ED 126)?
1. For me, the topic that is most significant is 21st Century skills. I choose this topic because it gave me knowledge on what should be the characters, skills or attitude that a teacher must possess in able to teach students properly. I learned from this lesson that in order to become a productive type of teacher you must know how interact with your students and know their needs for them to be active in the learning process and you can't have this without possessing the 21st century skills for you might have a diverse type of class in the future.

2. The topic that for me is the most difficult is the 'unit planning, objectives and curriculum framing questions'. Honestly, I had a hard time doing this topic because I don't have any idea at first if what should be the right thing to put in my unit plan. I think it would be easier for me if I have a little knowledge in making a lesson plan because they are closely related to each other. But with the help of our ever supportive professor sir J-Roel, we made it! Thanks to him and to my father in heaven also who is the source of everything.

3. Having this website (gg.gg) is a very big help for us students because most of the important matters are already in the website, but the sad thing is we can create something on our there (maybe we can but we don't how). All I can suggest is that, it would be cool if the students can create or edit some personal things there, I mean all in one package website.

4. For me yes, this semester is inspiring and engaging because I learned a lot from this subject, from possessing the 21st century skills down to website making it was indeed a good experience and I am thankful because of this subject I now have a little idea on how to make a lesson plan which I can use in the near future.

5. The only thing  that I can suggest is that the students must have first even a short background about the topic (pre-requisite skills) before making an output of the topic because it would be a hard time for them and for the teacher to have a productive type of class if the they are having a hard time making an output out of the topic given.

ISTE standards

1.) What are the ISTE standards that you have already possessed? What are your personal experiences that portrays such standards?
- I think, the ISTE standards that I already possessed are the empowered learner, knowledge constructor, creative communicator and global collaborator standards.
- My personal experienced about empowered learner standard was on my Ed 125.1 (Laboratory class). Ed 125.1 was all about educational technology or what technologies are we going to use in teaching our students and to make learning more interactive. The technology that for me is very useful and could really catch the attention of my students is the Microlesson, our instructor asked us to make a microlesson, it's a story presentation were in the lesson or the main topic was on the inside of the story. We also made charts, boards and other learning materials that are highly used in handling a class.
- In my knowledge constructor  standard, it was on my English 2 class. English 2 was all about writing in discipline, we've asked to write down topics regarding the issues in our societies. Upon putting many different issues, we came up to a one certain topic that we're going to defend or support why we chose that topic. We've done many researches either online or hand printed like books. I learned that in doing a research you should gather information's from different resources and never rely on one information only. After gathering information's form different, you then compare the information's you gain if they have similarities before making conclusions.
- In the creative communicator standard, I could really say that I possessed this standard because based on my experiences I could communicate to the other people accordingly. I know already how to deal with people according to what is our relationship, like for example on my friends, on my teachers or the people ahead of me, and children's I already know on what ways of communication I'm going to use and me as a student I learned how to construct ideas that will support my statement or answer.
- Lastly, the global collaborator standard, I just proved lately that I possessed this standard. For the last few weeks, we are informed that we're going to have classmates from different countries. The first people came was the students from Indonesia. We have different cultures and beliefs so that is why we need to be careful with our actions and words. We made friends with them, asked them questions about their country and their selves. I learned that in order to become a productive student I must know how to act properly on my environment and to the people around me.
2.) As a future teacher, in what ways can you help students develop such standards?
- As a future teacher, I think I can help my students in developing such standards by making them participate in my class. In developing global collaborator standard I will make some group activities wherein they'll going to collaborate with other people with different cultures and beliefs from because I believe that I'm going to handle a diverse class in the future. Next is the creative communicator standard, in developing this standard I'm going to ask student's to participate in my class by asking their ideas and expressing their thoughts in front of the class. Then in the knowledge constructor standard, I'll give them a research wherein they're going to enhance their skills in gathering information's and choosing the best and the right information's for a certain topic. And lastly the empowered learner standard, I'm going to use different instructional materials that will make the learning process more productive.

21st century skills

1.)What are the 21st century skills that you need to develop? How are you going to develop these skills?
- The 21st century skills that I need to develop are the communication and collaboration, information literacy, ICT literacy and the social and cross cultural skills. I need to develop my communication and collaborative skills for it is one of my weakness, in communicating to the others most specially in a group of people and I need to build up more of my self confidence and erase the negative thoughts that leads into consciousness. For me, in order to develop this skill I should practice communicating or speaking in front of a crowd to gain more confidence and to enhance my diction as well as my grammar. Next is the information literacy, I need to develop this skill because I'm not that updated on the happenings in my surroundings and I think in order to develop this skill I must read and gather more information that is related and that I can use to my daily situations, reading news, updates, and doing a research must be highly practice in developing this skill. Then the ICT (Information, Communication and Technology) literacy, I can say that I need to develop more of this skill because I'm not really knowledgeable enough in technologies, I mean I know how to properly use some but not all. In order to develop this skill I think I must gather more information that will help me in widening this skill like doing a research on the new technologies that are highly used nowadays. And lastly the social and cross-cultural skill. I'm not the type of person who knows well on how to socialize to the other people specially people with a different culture and beliefs from me. I think I can develop this skill through approaching others, asking them about themselves like their culture and beliefs, and sharing thoughts and ideas with them so that I'll know how to deal with them properly.
2.) As a future teacher, how are you going to develop these 21st century skills on your students?
- For communication and collaborative skill, I will make some group activities that will need the participation and cooperation of each member, and also I will let them share their thoughts and ideas to the class to build up their self confidence.
- For information literacy, , I will ask the students to do a research of some topics that I'll give to them and give them a reading assignment as a preparation for some upcoming activities.
- For the ICT (Information, Communication, Technology) literacy, I will my students use technologies in some presentation in the class like for example in reporting, I will let them use laptops, projectors and other learning materials that will help them more in the learning process. I won't let them be ignorant on the new technologies nowadays in fact I will use it to widen their knowledge in using and choosing the appropriate tools in learning.
- For the social and cross- cultural skill, again I will make some group activities that will be formed by a diverse type of students. I'll make them speak in front of the class and share about themselves in culture, beliefs, religion and etc. Tell them to accept individual differences and acknowledge to participate more n class.
- For creativity and innovation, I'll give them activities that will enhance their creative way of thinking and accept new ideas that will come from them. Like in letting them create a poem, story and even a song.

- For critical thinking and problem solving skill, I will let give a problem or a situation that needs to be solve and allow them to share their knowledge on how solve the given task.

a. The tool that I found useful and appropriate for my subject area is the google drive, as a teacher I expect that there will be loads of documents, folders and other paper matters that I'll keep. And by this reason I found google drive as a useful tool for my future field. There will be a paperless work for in google drive I can save data's, folders and even videos and pictures that I can use in my future teaching profession.

b. I will incorporate this tool in my unit plan by saving the important files that I'll be using for my field.
It will be so useful to me for it makes life more easier instead of using papers I can now have a new way in teaching my future students that will give a big help in dealing with our daily lives nowadays.

c. I will this tool in my future teaching profession by making a paperless classroom in a way that my future students will also have the knowledge to the new technologies nowadays, if what would be the appropriate tool for some activities in class.
